Denver, CO

Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons (RJ&L) LLP is pleased to announce that Yamini Piplani Grema has been selected for the 2013 RJ&L Michael D. Nosler Scholarship. The firm established the Scholarship in 2006 to honor and recognize RJ&L's past managing partner, Michael D. Nosler, who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to diversity in the legal profession, and supported the firm in its commitment to making the legal profession more diverse, inclusive, and reflective of the communities in which we live and work.

Ms. Grema is a second year law student at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and is currently in the top 6% of her law school class. She is a member of the Law Review and Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. As an undergrad at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Ms. Grema double-majored in economics and political science, graduating magna cum laude. She also served as the managing editor and opinion editor for the UNLV student newspaper, The Rebel Yell.

Ms. Grema's family immigrated from India to the United States when she was 11 years old, but they struggled with the immigration process and spent years in legal limbo. After their legal struggle finally ended, Yamini was profoundly affected, and she committed herself to a career in law. Her experience as a young South Asian immigrant has made her uniquely perceptive of issues related to immigrant and minority communities. She has concentrated her volunteer efforts in aiding both communities.

The Michael D. Nosler Scholarship program provides an opportunity for a talented diverse second-year law student from either the University of Denver Sturm College of Law or the University of Colorado School of Law to receive money toward his or her third-year law school tuition upon completion of a clerkship with RJ&L during the second semester of the recipient's second year of law school. In addition to financial assistance, the scholarship program is designed to provide the recipient with a learning experience that will develop and enhance his or her legal writing skills and provide exposure to the private law firm environment and the real-world practice of law.
