S. Kato Crews, Appointed For Governor's New Lincoln Commission

Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP is pleased to announce that partner, S. Kato Crews, has been appointed by Governor Ritter for the Colorado Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the purpose of which is to increase knowledge and awareness of Abraham Lincoln's legacy on democracy and equal opportunity.
Gov. Bill Ritter recently issued an Executive Order to create the Colorado Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. The Commission will lead Colorado's efforts at understanding and appreciating the significance of Abraham Lincoln and his presidency to our nation and on Colorado's history. The Commission has been asked to encourage dialogue about the "unfinished work" of democracy and equal opportunity in our own place and time.
The Commission will recommend and initiate programs to commemorate the bicentennial anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth throughout 2009, promote awareness of how the West shaped Lincoln and how he shaped the West, and encourage dialogue about and civic engagement with the challenges to democracy and equal opportunity that Lincoln faced in his time and that we face in ours.
Mr. Crews' practices out of both the Colorado Springs and Denver offices. He focuses on labor and employment law and litigation, construction law and litigation, and general litigation. He joined RJ&L in 2001 after serving as an attorney with the U.S. National Labor Relations Board. Mr. Crews is currently Board Chair for the Urban League of the Pikes Peak Region, Inc., a faculty member of the 2008 NITA Miranda Trial Advocacy Institute, and a member of the Steering Committee for the 2008 and 2009 Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training Programs.
Mr. Crews graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations/Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Northern Colorado, where he received the Future Black Leader and Achiever Award.
