Michael J. Sullivan Receives Honorary Doctoral Degree from University of Wyoming

Former governor and ambassador to Ireland, Michael J. Sullivan was given an honorary doctoral degree at the University of Wyoming commencement ceremonies on May 10 for contributing to the general welfare of Wyoming citizens, being an accomplished alumnus of the University of Wyoming, and for having brought distinction to the state, the university and himself on state, national and international stages.
A member of a well-known Wyoming family with long-time ties to UW, Mr. Sullivan practices law as a partner with Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP, in Casper. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland under the Clinton and Bush administrations, and he facilitated U.S. support for and implementation of the Good Friday Agreement. Mr. Sullivan previously held a fellowship at the Institute of Politics, the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and currently serves on the University of Wyoming College of Law Dean's Advisory Board.
Among Mr. Sullivan's many honors are the Wyoming National Guard's Distinguished Service Medal, the Wyoming Heritage Society's Award of Merit, the University of Wyoming Outstanding Alumnus Award and membership of the University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Applied Science Hall of Fame.
At UW, Mr. Sullivan received a B.S. (1961) in petroleum engineering and a J.D. with honors (1964) from the UW College of Law. He is recognized as an accomplished trial lawyer practicing in the Casper, Wyoming office with years of experience on issues related to arbitration and mediation, public policy and international business development with an emphasis on Ireland and Western Europe.
